ECG - Part 02 CGI – Computer Graphics Industry !

ECG - Part 02
Computer Graphics Industry

At Last! Morpheus says in the film “The Matrix” when Neo makes his mind to meet him. Congrats People you guys are on the second thread which shows your desire and understanding of the first thread. Technically Speaking CGI stands for Computer Graphics Integration.

Integration of What?

If we see the History of Computers they primarily belong to the work in Computing Logistics Data and So on. Then How Come Space Ships Started Flying in it? and Who? Put the Dinosaurs into it? What do you think who put them? “The Film Makers made them to put it.” Computer Graphics Industry was Nurtured and Developed on the Demands of Film Makers. The Director / Producer choose the subject that could expand the canvas of Life. In the early nineteenth century we saw Animation taking a great form of Entertainment, Mouse and Rats possible every animal was Entertaining and depicting emotion like real people at that time Computer where still out of business of Films and Entertainment. As the Time Progresses Film Producers, Writers and Directors Started looking for more interesting Subject to Portray and that demanded Virtual Cameras. When Steve Spielberg the great Film Maker decided to cast Dinosaurs in the Movie ”JURRASIC PARK” and Photo Realistically Interact with Humans.  Where did you think Steven have conducted the screen tests for the Dinosaurs? Or, Which Modeling Agencies have supplied Spielberg the great figure Dinosaurs? If you search from all around the globe you will not get Dinosaurs for sure... Yes, you might end up in getting their Bare Bones.

The Computer Graphics Industry came in to the Existence due to the heavy Need of Creative Content Development for Feature Films, Commercials, Games and Documentaries .When the “Physical Camera Fails the Virtual Camera Begins”. If you have loved the Dandruff add with your Favorite Model Actor and the time the camera runs across the scalp of your favorites, the Dandruff flakes that are presented are entirely virtually created in computer graphics. The real physical camera practically cannot be banged in to the scalp of the actor-model and needs to be seamlessly replaced by Computer Graphics Virtual Camera. Computer Graphics Industry was developed to fulfill the creative needs of Story tellers, Remember   “Art is the Demand, Technology is the Supply” and the same Logic goes for Computer Graphics. Computer Graphic Industry is the Subject to Content Creation. So to get a job in the Computer Graphics Industry you Need Studios, Studios Need Project...Project are created by Producers and Film Makers. If Ten out of Ten goes out for Films and Commercials based on CGI then we are right back in to the business, a lot of big Cinemas needed Computer Graphic creating periodic Films as like “GLADIATOR” know most parts of the world are catching up and exploiting the power of CGI from, Small Market like Television - Motion Graphics all your local channel Logos and Titles that you Wow at is been made by no black magic but by CGI. You’re daily Products which you consume in to your Day- Day - Life so called pack shots are creatively exaggerated in CGI and off Course Games, Documentary and FILMS. So please appeal to your respected film and content development Industry Producers, Directors and Writers to develop more content based on CGI J or become my film producers :-)

ECG - Part 01

ECG - Part 01
Essences for the Career in the field of Computer Graphics
The Premise – An Introductory Frequency
Spending almost more than a Decade in the Field of Computer Graphics being as a Student, Artist, Mentor, Educator and a Manager, when looking back in the present and bouncing “Back to the Future”, it all summed upon the choices one has to make about getting into the Industry of Computer Graphics.

Whoever or. Whatever you are, an Undergraduate Student, Professional from the Parallel Industry,  Formal Artist, Businessman, Another Media Guy, Educator-Faculty or an Graduate. Computer Graphics Industry has always been an Omnipotent Source of Attraction. The Space - Ships of Imagination flying in the Theaters and Television Screen has always been fascinating making us a Big “STAR WAR” Fan; Witnessing Battling with our day -to- day world relationship in a Unique Space Environment has completely added a new dimension to our living World. For all those Austic thinkers no Matter what’s your age, cast and bar! Who love to be in their own World of Imagination, The thing that made them happy when they  saw those Running DIANOSAURS IN “JURASSIC PARK”  apart from being an imaginative creature this strong visuals have also influenced common lay man to believe in his imagination and a energy of aspiration to dream and imagine. In the Start of the past century a Clerk with his routine Dilemma Sprinkle to LIFE with practicing his thoughts on paper and producing series of drawing to produce motion called animation, The feeling of two Live Human Suit Metal Roberts freaking out in the city to Kill and Protect you in “TERMINATOR” have thrown the Clichés out of the Life Box. Entertaining world has always made the Journey of Life Interesting and Cheerful But, Life Bounces Back like Agent Smith in “The Matrix” Questioning????????? The time has come to make a choice Mr. Anderson??????????

All of us had been gone through the time of making a decision about a “Career Choice” and a lot of ones who had experience the above mentioned frequency will be going through. The Choice of making a Career is crucial for anyone, as all of our dreams, hopes, ambition and imagination of living a so called my perfect Life is hooked upon your career move. Life is strict then a Teacher, a Teachers Teaches First and takes the Exam Later, While Life takes the Exam First and then teaches the Lesson afterward. A day you might realize “oh oh my god my career is too chaotic and not the right one to satisfy my parents and girl friend, dreams & expectation” Experience of my personal and associate industry Life. My ultimate and Sincere Urge has aroused to present some of the analysis I made in my career experience from being Student to Professional in the field of Computer Graphics Industry. It’s my Greatest Fortune to present some of the accounts on making the choice before getting in to the industry. The idea I try to present here is making you familiar with the Industry how did it exist “Without knowing the History, You Cannot Locate your Geography” and then knowing the Pipeline of the Industry of Animation and Visual Effects, Animation and Visual Effects (VFX) in Computer Graphics has a broad pipeline segregated in to different departments and areas of expertness. This is my genuine desire to make you notice your talent and then focus on the performance that you fit in to the pipeline you choose on your interest and expertise. As I have encounter situations and witness a very chaotic approach in the society for education and production industry about how to go about Computer Graphics. This Series of Articles on the blog may serve as detailed outlet counseling about making a career choice in the field of Computer Graphics. As I witnessed not anyone and everyone who draws can be a good Animator and every one or anyone knows how computer works can become a Visual Effects Artist. I saw “TITANIC” and that same time I was standing on the edge of my  Life  to make a career choice, When we was at theatre –  ahh,  we mean one of my friend… He told oh!! At last we will be escaping from life for some great Hours...After the Movie I decided to get in to the field of computer graphics as my Sub – Conscious mind has already made decision a long time ago when I saw, STAR WARS, E.T, and TERMINATOR. After every successful movie everyone wants to get to the OSCAR stage and present their gratitude Speech. As Human we are Fundamentally conservative we do things much as we want...We just appreciate the present Glory and the Milestone but have no idea of the Journey the OSCAR winning individual have taken .So after watching your inspirational flick and making your mind to Blow Storms and Tornado, I request to have a look to your imagination for better performance. There was a boy called George Lucas and he wanted a career...He went to a career counselor and asked? Which career suits me and after working all the equation the counselor said why don’t you try a career in Directing Films. The boy went home and analyzed the fact & figures presented by the counselor and Yes! George made his mind that’s my imagination taking the direction of self discovery and the rest is HISTORY...if you don’t know whom I am talking about then you seriously have to go through this and if you still know you may offer yourself fresh perspective. For me Creativity and Entertainment is not the way to escape from Life But, Life searching for Life…

TRINE GAMING & ANIMATION STUDIO RECRUTIER TALKS to CGIL!

Hi Folks,
Production & Education are the two extremes of the CG arena.. Production is the Demand and Education is the Supply.. CGIL inquires the Demands Studios are looking in to.. so the Experience as well the Fresher instructors can adopt what studios are looking for making education and production a smooth bridge to cross over..............

Mr. Nitin Gupta - HR Manager of Trine Animation Studio Mumbai,
http://www.trine.co.in
Manage the finances and human resources at the company. His role is to increase the workforce productivity and to manage the operational finances. Gives his insight to CGIL!

1) In what sector is your Studio catering for?
A: Our studio offers Game Development Services for the Entertainment Industry.

2) What type of Hierarchy the Dept follow?
A: Typical studio Hierarchy, Junior Artists, Artists, Lead Artists, Art Director

3) What are the basic criteria that are considered while hiring a fresher in terms of software skills?
A: Junior Artists are expected to be familiar with at least  1 3D application (preferably 3dsmax) and Photoshop. Familiarity with Sculpting tools is a must! (mudbox preferred)

4) Is Academics a Big Concern?
A: Academic Qualifications  is not a big concern. What we are interested in Art candidates are Artistic and Technical Skills. If a certain institute is constantly offering skilled Artists in both fields, it becomes a preference, a source you can depend on, but is not a pre-requisite at this point.

5) If the Academics are problem what kind of skill set does the candidate should poses?
A: Core artistic skills is something that artists often lack. Exposure to pop culture and their field of preference is another problem. Colour and Tonal coordination skills are lacking, the artists often do not comprehend basic artistic concepts as they apply in composition, and form.

6) What do you look on Technical Grounds?
A: Junior artists should be familiar with the concept of Game Engines. They should be familiar with at least one. Unity and UDK are two very popular and powerful game engines. They should be familiar with the types of textures and what the requirements are for modern video game shading techniques.

7) Is show reel submission a must?
A: Is that a question????

8) Does Show reel submission process helps in short-listing?
A: Lack of a show reel or portfolio leads to automatic rejection of the application.
Online portfolios and show reels are preferred.

9) What after the Candidates are Short Listed?
A: After the candidates are shortlisted they are requested to visit the studio for an interview.

10) In the Total Technical Staff what is the percentage of Employees Coming from Animation School ?
A: 80% of them but that was irrelevant to their hiring.

11) Is Training Important to build up the industry?
A: It is extremely important. Training Institutes so far are not showing promising results.
Junior Artists are re-trained in studios costing money and time.

12) Can the Studio Bid for better jobs on getting the right candidates from Education?
A: It is irrelevant.

13) What measures should be taken to bridge the gap of Production - to - Education?
A: More careful selection of trainers. Institutes should take advice from Studios on what their curriculum should contain, and internships should be available for the students provided that the Institute is providing the type of education that was suggested.

14) Is Interchanging of Dept...Practiced by the Studio to Favor Artist for up- gradation?
A: This question is incomprehensible.

15) Piece of Advice to Instructors & Faculties?
A: Update and educate yourselves constantly. The level of training services offered by many institutes is obsolete.

CGIL Sincere Gratitude to TRINE ANIMATION STUDIO & Mr.NItin Gupta for contributing there precious time and insights for shaping the cg education.
